Your way into the IB Diploma Programme

Admission

Admission

How admission to IB works

Whether you qualify for direct admission or need an individual assessment, all applications go through optagelse.dk. Here is what we expect – and how to apply.

Requirements

We look at each applicant individually

At Hasseris IB, our students come from many different educational backgrounds. That is why we assess each application individually and take a holistic approach to the admissions process.

To be considered for admission to either the PreIB Course or the IB Diploma Programme, you are expected to have a strong command of English and a solid foundation in Mathematics and the Sciences. We also look for students who are motivated, willing to work hard, and ready to contribute positively to the school community.

Here you can learn more about whether your IB journey should begin in PreIB or with direct entry to the IB Diploma Programme.

Qualifications

Direct admission to the IB Diploma Programme

You may be eligible for direct admission to the two-year IB Diploma Programme if you have completed the equivalent of 11 years of schooling in another education system. This could include the first year of a Danish upper secondary programme (STX) or international qualifications such as MYP 5 or at least five passed (I)GCSE subjects with grades C or above.

In some cases, you may be required to take written admission tests in Mathematics, English, and General Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) as part of the admissions process.

To qualify for direct admission, your entry exams should include Mathematics, English, History, and either two separate science subjects or a coordinated science course.

Please note that results from some international qualifications are not released until August, after the start of the IB Diploma Programme. For this reason, we reserve the right to transfer you from IB1 to the PreIB course if your final examination results do not meet our admission requirements.

PreIB

PreIB admission

If you do not meet the entry requirements for the IB Diploma Programme, you may apply for admission to our PreIB Course, which is also taught in English and prepares you for the IB Diploma Programme. Most of our students at Hasseris IB start in PreIB and follow a three-year IB pathway, consisting of one year of PreIB followed by the two-year IB Diploma Programme.

To be eligible for PreIB, you must have completed the Danish 9th or 10th Grade Leaving Examinations (Folkeskolens afgangseksamen) or an equivalent international qualification. Your qualifications should include final examinations in Mathematics, English, History, and at least two science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics).

In some cases, applicants may be required to take admission tests as part of the assessment process.

With a Danish Folkeskole Leaving Certificate, you must meet the same admission requirements as applicants to other Danish upper secondary programmes, such as STX. However, we may be able to grant exemptions from certain requirements, for example the requirement to have studied a second foreign language.

If you have completed only part of a Danish Folkeskole Leaving Certificate, you will automatically be invited to sit an admission test in written and oral English, mathematics, and general science.

Successful completion of the PreIB programme will give you direct access to the IB Diploma Programme, provided that you have achieved satisfactory results and demonstrated strong study habits and academic commitment.
